F.E.S. Girls` College, affiliated to the Gondwana University, Gadchiroli, Maharashtra State, was established by the Female Education Society in 1983, to make its students self reliant, socially conscious and academically sound citizens. Located in the prominent Anchaleshwar Gate locality in Chandrapur city, the college that was begun to cater to the local populace now attracts students from all over the city. The college offers programmes and courses (within the scope of the university curriculum) that reflect the goals and the objectives of the institution.
Like any other educational institution, F.E.S. Girls` College aspires to impart quality learning to its students. We are however constrained due to infrastructural limitations and despite our best intentions we find ourselves unable to start professional courses. We nevertheless try to fully utilize the available resources by accommodating a wide range of activities from debates, seminars, workshops, social programmes to sports and vocational courses from time to time. We have introduced B.Sc. courses for the benefit of the students.
It is heartening to know that despite many limitations our students perform reasonably well in the subjects like Home Economics, Psychology, Music etc and Commerce sections well in the university examinations. Some students in the afore-mentioned disciplines have attained gold medals, merit status and first class results. Ours is the only old and developed college that offers variety of subjects like Psychology, Music and Fashion Designing. Our college also offers post graduation in subjects Marathi Literature, Sociology, Home Economics and Economics.
College students won Gold medals in athletics, boxing, power lifting and also commanded championship in Kabaddi, ball badminton, kho kho etc. College students participated in International slum soccer, homeless football world cup and discover football tournament and also participated in All India University West Zone, Central Zone tournaments. College student selected to participate in International Power lifting competition to be held in Thailand.
College conducts Gandgi Vichar Sanskar Examination organized by Gandhi research foundation Jalgoan. College also conducts Sanvidhan Vichar Sanskar Examination of Academy of Innovation in Education, Kolhapur. Student participated in Avishkar Research Festival and received first and second prize. College received awards instituted by State Government of Maharashtra for ‘Jagar Janicancha Social Project’.
We are blessed with a learned group of dedicated teachers who have been awarded Ph.Ds. Out of a total of 22 permanent staff members 18 have been awarded Ph.Ds and 4 have M.Phill degree and remaining are doing research. Four staff members with Ph.D. have retired. Around six professors are Ph.D. supervisors and around 14 students have been awarded Ph.Ds. underthem in English, Marathi and Political Science and many more are doing research. College has a total number of twenty one departments (Twelve in Arts faculty, four in Commerce and five in Science faculty) supported by 22 permanent and 15 contributory and visiting teachers. The college also offers several support services, such as a central library, several seminar, a computer centre, a health centre, sports facilities, common-room, canteen, hostels, grievance redress cell and an NSS unit.
They take great pains to publish the college magazine on a regular basis, and with that they also ensure that students from different departments contribute in the college magazines. We believe in better coordination among the various departments rather than emphasize priorities according to the preferences of individual departments. Many departments have taken up the responsibility to conduct Minor Research projects on various topics have organized National level conferences in subjects like Sociology, History, Marathi and Home Economics. The members of the non-teaching staff, an integral part of the administrative machinery, perform their duties with great efficiency.
